European Day of Languages

Lesson: Languages

Class: Year 4 Year: 2016 - 2017

On 26th September, we celebrated European Day of Languages. In Year 4 we focused on Germany. We watched a video about life in a German primary school and discussed the similarities and differences. We discovered about the German tradition of giving children 'Schultuten' on their first day of a new school year  - these are decorated cones full of sweets, toys and stationery. We then made our own! To finish the afternoon we tasted bratwurst and sauerkraut and Mrs Young (who speaks German) taught us the German version of 'She'll be Coming Round the Mountain' which is called 'Tante aus Marokko'. It was great fun!
