Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January each year. It’s a time for everyone to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust. On Holocaust Memorial Day we can honour the survivors of these regimes and challenge ourselves to use the lessons of their experience to inform our lives today. 27 January marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

Year 5 attended the Holocaust Memorial Day service at the Town Hall today. We listened to touching recounts from survivors and stories of the hardships faced by those persecuted during this difficult time. We learned about the lessons we can learn from this and how we can impact the future. We also were able to enjoy performances by some secondary school choirs singing in tribute of those whose lives were changed forever in WWII. We were given the opportunity to sign a book in commemoration of those involved.
